Course Overview

Our two-year graduate-entry MSc Physiotherapy (pre-registration) programme is a challenging but rewarding course. The programme is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to become a highly competent registered physiotherapist able to work compassionately and creatively with various patient groups.

You will also gain skills in evidence-based practice, research, and continuous professional development practice. On this course you will be taught by academic staff with extensive clinical experience and guest lecturers who are experienced clinicians at the forefront of their subjects. Our programme uses a modern and innovative integrated blended learning approach, using technology to support face-to-face teaching, so you will only be in university a maximum of three days a week.

When you are learning on campus you will be taught in our innovative new facilities which have been designed for teaching pre-clinical and clinical skills.

Bucks has a well-established range of healthcare and nursing programmes, and we work closely with NHS and Primary Care Trusts across Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas. You will primarily be on clinical placements throughout year two, which will occur in various settings, including but not limited to an acute hospital, primary and community stations, and outpatient clinics. This wide range of placements will equip you with a background and knowledge that will prove invaluable in your career as a physiotherapist.

Course Details

On this course you will focus on clinical skills and problem-based learning. These activities are further supported by, lectures, e-learning, practical sessions, tutorials, and online and face-to-face seminars as appropriate. In your first year you will be taught in purpose-built facilities, including well-equipped simulation clinics and rehabilitation teaching rooms, alongside the opportunity to participate in an active learning observational placement.

Each module you will take on the course has at least two forms of assessment. The different assessment strategies include

• Objective structured clinical examinations (OSCE)
• Viva (oral examination)
• Oral presentations
• Written examinations
• Portfolios
• Clinical case studies.

These assessments will enable the modules to support and build up your practical, clinical, communication, and written skills that you will need for the clinical placement module and successful lifelong learning. The blended learning programme and other learning activities experienced on the course will prepare you well for initial practice and will promote continued learning, enabling you to adapt to the opportunities you will face during your career journey.

As a graduate of this course you will become eligible to apply to register as a physiotherapist with the *Health and Care Professions Council and membership of the *Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Career Prospects

Upon graduation you will have the knowledge and key personal skills and attitudes necessary to pursue a successful professional career as a physiotherapist in any setting. Physiotherapists work in different areas of healthcare including acute hospitals, primary care settings, community, and out-patient clinics. The also work in professional sport industries and as a physiotherapist you can set up your own practice.
